coaching philosophy

a note from Coach Leon

I hold high expectations for our players, but I also care deeply about relationships. My aim is to be someone the boys can trust and turn to—not just during their baseball years, but throughout their lives.

Each season I have three goals:

1) Developing Skills

2) Building Character

3) Loving the Game

goals

  • Developing Skills

I want every player to develop the ability to play baseball for as long as possible. As competition intensifies through middle school, high school, at the collegiate or pro levels, it is essential our players refine their skills so they can earn playing time rather than simply hope to make a roster.

Our practices will emphasize fundamentals, situational awareness, and a growth mindset so each player can continue progressing

  • Building Character

Baseball naturally builds character, but I intentionally teach and reinforce specific values that shape how our boys approach the game—and life:

Be a Great Teammate: Pick each other up when things go wrong; celebrate one another’s successes.

Do Your Job Every Play: Understand the situation and execute your role with purpose.

Give Maximum Effort: We will be a high-effort team in every practice, game, and inning.

Be Mentally Tough: Stay present and composed regardless of the last play’s outcome.

Use Your Courage: Fear is natural in sports; courage is doing your job anyway—and it strengthens each time you use it.

  • Loving the Game

After my wife and sons, baseball is the greatest love of my life. I believe it’s the most beautiful game ever created—a cornerstone of our nation’s history and a shared tradition stretching back over 200 years.

I want our players to love baseball not only for the joy it brings, but because at higher levels, success demands an intensity of effort only sustained by true passion. Loving the game deeply is what drives players to keep improving—and to carry baseball’s lessons with them long after the season ends.
